As recognized by our elected officials, opioid abuse is at an all-time high. This has led to the rampant spread of heroin use throughout our communities, including use by respected professionals and civil servants. Mr. McCormack has represented fire fighters, nurses, teachers and other health care workers in criminal matters ranging from forged prescriptions, to illegal possession of heroin or other prescribed substances. The first issue of concern for any of these persons is stopping the illegal use, or legal abuse, and addressing the addiction, which can plague individuals for the rest of their lives. Failure to manage, and overcome an opioid addiction, can lead to a continued future of crime, and ultimately death. Our courts have come to recognize that many good people can get caught up in criminality due to an opioid addiction, and thus there exist treatment programs and commitments you may want to take advantage of prior to going to trial or after having been sentenced. Mr. McCormack can discuss with you all of the different options when faced with the criminal charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with intent to distribute CDS or distribution of CDS.
